Pinup Project

My girlfriend 'commissioned' me to paint something for her to take back to school in Scotland, and this is what we came up with. It's a airbrush painting done by George Petty for Esquire back in the early 40's. I'm going to redo it using gouache instead, and thought it would be interesting to document the process here.
I use cold press 110lb illustration board, and I cut it down to 16"x20" so it will easily fit in a standard frame. I like to wet both sides of the board down pretty good and let it dry flat to start. This relaxes the fibers and helps prevent it from curling when wet paint is applied later.

These were taken on 7-19-09, but just now getting around to putting them up.

If you were to stick your head up the rear-end of a Mig-15, this is what you'd see (if it wasn't running.)

Motorcycles for 'We Design Cars' project

These are just some sketches from my sketchbook from throughout the year. These are completely random order, just looking to get some input for a direction to head I guess.

A quick sketch mostly focused on proportion.

Girder forks, single sided swing arm. Focus is on the motor.

Rectangular cross section forks, Ram air scoop on top of tank, and exhaust incorporated into swing arm.

A sporty, compact, liquid cooled twin with girder forks

Wheels are overrated.. Star Wars speeder bike inspired.

A sport bike with a chopper stance.

Fairly typical street fighter, with some motocross styling inspiration.

First marker rendering in months! Now if I could just translate my abilities to Photoshop renderings, I'd be thrilled. Stay tuned to see if that happens...
This is my first attempt at running a blog, so lets see how it goes...
